The Road Awareness and Accident Prevention Program (RAAP) is run in South Australia and Queensland by the South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service and the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service respectively. The program is also being rolled out in some other states. Please check with your local fire service.

RAAP Program Extrication Scenario

The program involves Emergency Service personnel attending schools and discussing what happens in road crashes with the students.

There are videos and discussions about actual road crash scenarios as well as an example crash scene extrication.

In some cases a young person who has been injured in a car crash will also attend and provide his or her personal perspective.

As part of the program in South Australia, the Roads 2 Survival™ Parent - Young Person Safe Driving Agreement is distributed to the students to take home and discuss with their parents. This combination of a front end student education program with a follow through agreement for family discussion seems to be working well. It is planned to be run in over 30 schools in South Australia in 2005.
